Secondary School Programme

Our award winning secondary school project aims to influence attitudes to violence among Scottish youth, particularly in relation to knife carrying, knife crime and gang membership. Launched on 18th November 2008 at the Southern General Hospital Glasgow by the Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Nicola Sturgeon, and the Minister for Justice, Kenny MacAskill, this initiative sees medics go into schools to talk to young people about the consequences of violence. So far we have spoken to over 15000 young people. Any school in Scotland can request a visit and we'll do our best to get there; most of our volunteers work full time so some flexibility is needed. Our presentation fits within a standard class period and is aligned with the Curriculum for Excellence. If you'd like a school visit contact us by email

Feedback from Portland HIgh School and Fallside School in Lanarkshire visited in August 2013

'Just to say a big thank you to you and all your staff for coming out to our schools.  Dr Murray was fantastic this morning and it was good to chat to Joyce.  The session was well received by our boys and staff and Mike was very down to earth with his presentation and approach to the boys. The session had a real impact on our boys and the staff will carry on discussing these issues in class.   I really appreciate the time and effort you have given my schools and look forward to working with you in the future.  Please pass on my thanks to your team.'
