bCSI - Multimedia Violence Prevention Resource for Primary Schools
We have started work on an exciting new project to produce an online multi-media violence prevention resource for primary schools. Over the years we have been approached by several primary schools who were aware of our award winning secondary school programme to see if it could be used in the primary school setting. We felt that younger children needed a more flexible, largely teacher-delivered but pupil-centred programme which crossed the Curriculum for Excellence to approach the issues they faced from a variety of different angles.
The Curriculum for Excellence aims to develop successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. Our aim in developing bCSI (Brave Strong Confident Individuals) is to encourage development of these skills and to capture interest while also giving the children the confidence to make safe independent and effective decisions about personal safety, knife carrying and gang membership.
During the last year we carried out some pilot work and now with funding from No Knives Better Lives, The Robertson Trust and First State Investments and with the generosity of all of our supporters we aim to transform this into an online resouce for primary schools that will be hosted on GLOW from late 2014. We are working on this with Spider Online who are based in Glasgow and who have a proven track record of delivering innovative educational material for young people. Other good news is that the Children's Parliament are going to be involved in the development of one of the modules.
Over the next few months we will be recruiting volunteers to help with different aspects of this project so if you would like to help or if you would like more information please get in touch with us. We would be particularly interested to hear from primary school teachers, healthcare professionals, police officers, journalists, parents or employers.
